The north shore
Lucerne sits on Highway 20 along the north shore of Clear Lake, a little over seven miles east-northeast of Lakeport across the water. It was once called Clear Lake Beach and likes to call itself the Switzerland of America. Lucerne Harbor Park, with its boat launch and fishing pier, is the center of the waterfront, and the town of Nice is its neighbor to the west.
Around your place
Whether you live near the water or farther back from it, the usual worries are the same: a tree that died over the summer, limbs over the roof or the power drop, a leaner after a wet winter. The tracked spider lift gets into yards a bucket truck cannot, and where a tree cannot be felled whole, it comes down a section at a time. See tree removal and tree trimming.
The 2018 Ranch Fire
During the Ranch Fire in 2018, part of the Mendocino Complex, areas west of Lucerne were under mandatory evacuation in early August. The Ranch Fire alone burned 410,203 acres. With brushy hills rising behind the north shore, defensible space clearing is worth doing every spring. Start closest to the house: dry needles off the roof and out of the gutters, branches pulled back from the eaves, firewood moved away from the walls, then work outward.
Making the trip count
Because Lucerne is the far side of the lake from Cobb, it pays to have everything looked at in one visit. Text a few photos first: the tree, what is under it, and how a machine would get in. Photos help us see what the job will take before we come out. When a tree is on the house, distance does not matter: someone picks up at three in the morning on a Sunday, and the crew heads around the lake. See emergency work.
