Top of the Napa Valley
Calistoga sits at the north end of the Napa Valley at about 350 feet, a town of 5,228 people at the 2020 census. It is known for its hot springs and mud baths, and for a geyser outside town called the Old Faithful of California. From Middletown, Highway 29 runs south past Robert Louis Stevenson State Park on the flanks of Mount St. Helena and down into town. Oaks grow thick across the valley floor.
Four big firs by the house
One of the biggest removals R2 has done was here: four very old, very large firs on a Calistoga property. Two stood close to the house, and one grew right up through the deck. There was no room to drop any of them whole. The crew worked from the tracked spider lift, cutting each trunk from the top down, while a telehandler took the heavy sections and set them down clear of the house.
The owner wrote afterward: “His team painstakingly removed the tree with no damage to our home or deck. … They left the property as they found it, clean and perfect.” (Monika K., October 2026) Read how the job was done.
Fire country, twice
The 2017 Tubbs Fire started off Highway 128 and Bennett Lane, and nearly the whole town was evacuated. In September 2020 the Glass Fire started near Glass Mountain Road in Deer Park, burned 67,484 acres and forced Calistoga out a second time in four years. Big conifers next to a house matter here. Defensible space work lifts limbs, clears brush and takes out dead trees, and a removal done in sections deals with the tree that has grown too close.
