Inside the gates

Hidden Valley Lake is a gated subdivision in southern Lake County, with State Route 29 running along its west side. It is a common interest development managed by the Hidden Valley Lake Association. Before you schedule a removal or a big trim, check with the association on what it asks of homeowners. R2 & Company is licensed and insured; if the association wants proof of insurance, ask for it with your estimate.

Close neighbors, little room

Houses here sit near one another, and a big tree in a back yard often hangs over two or three properties at once. There is rarely a clear spot to drop a trunk whole. Our tracked spider lift fits through tight spaces and sets up on a lawn or a driveway, and the crew takes the tree apart from the top, lowering each piece so nothing hits a roof, a fence or the neighbor’s patio. Then everything is chipped and the yard raked out. With neighbors this close, tell the people next door which day the crew is coming, so cars get moved and pets stay inside while the lift is up.

The same lift is what makes careful tree trimming possible: dead limbs off the roof, a crown thinned so wind passes through, branches lifted off the house and the street.

The south end and the 2015 fire

The Valley Fire destroyed parts of the south end of Hidden Valley Lake in September 2015. Trees at the edges of that burn that lived through it with scorched bark may have weakened since, and they are worth a second look if they stand over a house. For the rest of the neighborhood, defensible space work pulls brush back and lifts low branches around homes before summer, and our emergency crew answers any hour when wind or snow brings a tree down.

Questions From Hidden Valley Lake

Does the Hidden Valley Lake Association need to approve tree work?

That is up to the association, so check with them before you book. County rules may apply too; check with the County of Lake. We can work around whatever approval you need.

My back yard is small and fenced. Can you still get a big tree out?

Usually, yes. The tracked spider lift was chosen for exactly that: tight spaces and hard to reach trees. The crew lowers the tree in pieces instead of felling it.
